Susana Doval Suárez

Susana M. Doval Suárez is Tenured Lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), where she teaches English language, Contrastive Linguistics and Research Methods and Resources in English Linguistics. She obtained a PhD at the USC in 2002 with a dissertation on the acquisition of a second orthographic system, which was awarded the 2003 PhD Extraordinary Prize of the Faculty of Philology. She has participated in a number of research projects related with second language acquisition and the grammar-discourse interface, and financed with European, Spanish and Galician funds. Her research interests include second language learning and, more particularly, the acquision of orthography and discourse competence. Along this line, she has published multiple contributions such as The Acquisition of L2-English Spelling (Lincom, 2004). Doval Suárez has also conducted research in contrastive linguistics and (contrastive) discourse analysis. She has co-edited, amongst others, the volumes Contrastive Discourse Analysis: Functional and Corpus Perspectives (Equinox, 2013) and The Dynamics of Language Use: Functional and Contrastive Perspectives (John Benjamins, 2005).
